sabine ganezer linfield dept. of music senior capstone presentation
This project consists of a collection of songs I have written, arranged, recorded and produced. An important part of the project is the way these songs are presented -- in an intentional order, on this site, which functions as a sort of multimedia canvas on which I have expressed, to the best of my current ability, the story I want to tell through intertwining of words, timbres, harmonies, rhymes, and rhythms. While a traditional student recital would be accompanied by a booklet of program notes, this website is part of the "program" itself. It includes embedded SoundCloud tracks, illustrations, musician credits, information on my process and the theory behind some of the choices I have made here, and lyric transcriptions that represent the colors and contours of the temporal music in visual format.
My expressive goal with this project is to combine the domains of creative (page-bound) writing and (temporally experienced) music in a way that says more than either could alone, sometimes by reinforcing each other, sometimes by contradicting. The overall theme of this collection of songs is ephemerality, disconnect -- so basically the way I happen to experience life as a human. I hope for my work to inspire people to try more to connect to one another and the other beings that inhabit our world.
